I wrote these because I wanted to record and bring into view the radical people and movements and ideas which have influenced me in the hope that younger people miight find them interesting and begin to look at the recent past in more detai<\/em>l.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sheila Rowbotham<\/strong>, who helped to start the women\u2019s liberation movement in<br \/>\nBritain, was influenced by the ideas of history from below associated with the<br \/>\nHistory Workshops held at Ruskin College, Oxford. She has written widely on the<br \/>\nhistory of feminism and radical social movements. Her books include <em>Edward<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Carpenter: A Life of Liberty and Love<\/em> (2008) <em>Dreamers of a New Day<\/em> (2010) and<br \/>\n<em>Rebel Crossings: New Women, Free Lovers and Radicals in Britain and the United<\/em><br \/>\n<em>States<\/em>.
